Admin./ biographical historyWilliam Cooke was a General Practitioner and a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (1806). He was apprenticed to Mr Gwynne, a general practitioner in Wem. He came to London in 1802 and studied at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London under John Abernethy. In 1806 he settled in Plaistow, and later moving to the City of London at Great Prescott Street, and then 39 Trinity Square. He received his MD from St Andrews in 1822. Cooke was also a member, and founder of the Hunterian Society, which was formed in January 1819.
