Admin./ biographical historyWilliam (W) Prosser was a Surgeon. He was on the staff at the Monmouth Hospital during the early nineteenth century. Prosser's grandson was Thomas Prosser FRCS (1820-1870). Thomas Prosser's son was Thomas Gilbert Prosser MRCS, from whom the papers came.
Scope and ContentThe collection contains the notes of a student of medicine on subjects such as surgery, midwifery, physiology, the nerves and the brain, as well as a commonplace book. The notes were possibly written by W Prosser, great grandfather of Thomas Gilbert Prosser MRCS, from whose family the collection came. The lectures attended include John Abernethy, John Clarke, Sir Astley Cooper, Joshua Brookes, and Andrew Thynne.
