Scope and ContentThis volume contains notes by George Langstaff when he was a ship's surgeon on a voyage from Calcutta to England. The first page is marked "Diurnal remarks continued from the second book". The first entry is August 28th 1799 and the last entry is January 1st 1801. The volume contains notes on the weather, the crew and conditions of the ship and others in the fleet, dissections and examinations of animals and fish, and the conditions and treatments of his patients, including the delivery of a baby. The volume also contains diary entries on activities after the ship reached England 1800-1801. A letter is inserted at the back of the volume from the India Office at Whitehall, dated 11th November 1930 to Samuel Wood at the Library of The Royal College of Surgeons of England. The letter concerns a enquiry for information on Langstaff made by Samuel Wood.
