Admin./ biographical historyJames Blake Bailey was the Librarian of the Royal College of Surgeons of England from 1887 to 1897. Bailey re-fashioned the Library after a benefaction from Sir Erasmus Wilson enabled the College to extend the building. Bailey also began a new card catalogue, combining author and subject following a new American practice. During his time as Librarian visitor numbers grew from twenty to forty a day, he published a list of Hunter's writings, and organised a loan exhibition for the centenary of Hunter's death.
